Railway Infrastructure Safety Field Day

Learning outcomes:
 

  • Operational Instruction on Railways (access and electrification safety)

  • Briefing on KiwiRail tunnel emergency plans

  • Incident responses to rail emergencies and their Command and Control structures

  • Case studies of recent fires and emergency events involving rail

  • Inspection of locomotive fire safety systems and equipment

  • Safety considerations involving locomotives and rolling stock

  • Safety around trackside electrical equipment

The Ferrymead Heritage Park is the home of the Diesel Traction Group and the Canterbury Railway Society.  The group is an operator within the park and have run charter travel services across Kiwirail lines in the South Island.  The Diesel Traction Group Canterbury Railway Society collections include several restored heritage locomotives. these including electric, steam and diesel variants that are operated regularly for the general public.

 

The park was originally formed in the 1960s with a common interest in forming a museum of scientific and industrial history, alongside the Canterbury Branch of the New Zealand Railway and Locomotive Society.

Location: Ferrymead Heritage Park, Christchurch

Date: Saturday 1 April 2023

Time: 9.30am - 3.30pm

Cost: $20 per person. Note: Attendance fee to be paid in advance - details sent in confirmation email.

Maximum attendees: Up to 40 people

Dress code: FENZ Level 1 Dark Blues / Overalls or equivalent.  High viz vest. Sturdy footwear required

Diesel Traction Group / Canterbury Rail Society Depot Tour

•    Tour of depot
•    Inspection of diesel / electric locomotive systems
•    Inspection of live steam locomotive
•    Emergency response considerations

 

3pm:
Final presentation to participants / venue

3.30pm:
Conclusion of field day

4pm:
